SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario.You try to move a mailbox
between an Exchange Server 2003-based server and an Exchange Server 2007
Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based server. However, if the SimpleDisplayName attribute of an Exchange Server 2003 mailbox contains a single
quotation mark ('), and you try to move this mailbox to the Exchange Server
2007 SP1-based server, the operation fails and you receive the following error
message: <SimpleDisplayName of
the user> is not a valid value for SimpleDisplayName. The
value may only contain 'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'f', 'g', 'h', 'i', 'j', 'k',
'l', 'm', 'n', 'o', 'p', 'q', 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v', 'w', 'x', 'y','z', 'A',
'B', 'C', 'D', 'E', 'F', 'G', 'H', 'I', 'J', 'K', 'L', 'M', 'N', 'O', 'P', 'Q',
'R', 'S', 'T', 'U', 'V', 'W', 'X', 'Y', 'Z', '0', '1', '2', '3', '4','5', '6',
'7', '8', '9', '"', '(', ')', '+', ',', '-', '.', '/', ':', '?', ' '. It was
running the command 'move-mailbox -TargetDatabase '<Exchange
2007 server> \ <Storage Group
name> \ <Mailbox Database
name>''. Note This error message resembles the error message that you receive when you move a mailbox in Exchange Management Console or run the Move-Mailbox command in Exchange Management Shell. CAUSEThe single quotation mark (') is a valid character in the SimpleDisplayName attribute in Exchange Server 2003. However, it is not considered
as a valid character in Exchange Server 2007 SP1. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 9 for
