Known issues

Note These issues occur in Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR and Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR R2.

Issue 1 You cannot use the DBProRepair RestoreDBPro2008 command to restore your database edition to Database Edition 2008 Service Pack1
Consider the following scenario.
  • You use the Add or Remove Programs tool to uninstall Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR.
  • At a Command prompt, you execute the following command:
    %Program Files%\ Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\DBPro\DBProRepair RestoreDBPro2008
  • Then, you open the Visual Studio IDE and try to create a database project.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Visual Studio 2008 IDE.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Expand Database Tools, and then click Design-time Validation Database.
  4. On the right pane, change the value of the SQL Server Instance name field to SQLExpress, then click OK.
Issue 2 Problems occur in the Create Unit Tests wizard when you create a unit test for a method in a solution that contains a database project in the Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR IDE

Consider the following scenario.
  • You open a Visual Basic .NET, or C++ project in a solution in the Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR IDE.
  • You open a source file in the project.
  • You right-click a public method, and then select Create Unit Tests. The Create Unit Tests wizard starts.
In this scenario, you experience the following problems in the Create Unit Tests wizard:
  • There are no type lists in the Types panel.
  • The Output project list is missing.
  • When you click Settings, the wizard closes immediately.
  • The OK button is unavailable.
This problem occurs when the solution contains a database project.

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix that is described in KB 962866. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
