FIX: When you edit and then save a Database.sqlpermissions file in a SQL server database project in Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR, it takes a long time to update the schema model of the database and complete the saving process

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft SQL Server database project in Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR.
  • You edit the Database.sqlpermissions file in the database project to edit permissions. For example, you remove a permission for an object from the file.
  • You save the file.
In this scenario, it takes a long time to update the schema model of the database and complete the saving process.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because all the existing elements in the schema model that are linked to the Database.sqlpermissions file are removed and then re-added when you save the file. Especially, when an element is removed, the validation status of other existing elements that have the same type are reset. Therefore, the validation status of an element is reset repeatedly until the element is removed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR R2. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
