FIX: Error message when you import a database schema that contains a dot in the name to a database project in Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR: "<Object_type> does not allow a database name to be specified"

SYMPTOMS

You have an database object that contains a dot in the schema name in a Microsoft SQL Server database. The object can be a stored procedure, a function, a view or a trigger. In Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR, you experience one of the following problems:
  • When you import the database schema to a database project, you receive one or more of the following error messages in the Error List window:
    Incorrect syntax near ..
    <Object_type> does not allow a database name to be specified.
  • You set the database as the Source Schema or the Target Schema. After you complete a schema comparison, the Schema Update Script window is empty and you receive one or more of the following error messages in the Error List window:
    TSD02021: Incorrect syntax near ..
    TSD02021: <Object_type> does not allow a database name to be specified.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR R2. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add the square brackets round the name of the schema object.
