Error message when you access entities in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 client for Outlook: "A Microsoft Dynamics CRM window was unable to open, and may have been blocked by a popup blocker"

You use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 client for Microsoft Office Outlook on a computer that is running Windows Vista together with Windows Internet Explorer 7 or together with Windows Internet Explorer 8. When you access entities in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook, you receive the following error message:For example, you receive this error message when you access accounts, contacts, or custom entities in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook.

This problem occurs because of the way that protected mode works. When you open a record in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the window.open function is used. When one Outlook process tries to open a window in Internet Explorer and the URL is loaded in a zone that has protected mode enabled, "null" is returned as the return value for opening the window. In the code, "null" indicates that a pop-up window was blocked. In Internet Explorer 7, "null" may also indicate that protected mode is enabled.

This is a security feature when Windows Vista works together with Internet Explorer 7 or together with Internet Explorer 8.

Method 1

Double-click a record in Outlook. To do this, follow these steps:

1. When you are prompted for credentials, enter valid credentials.
2. Leave the window open while Outlook is running.
3. Open any other record. You are no longer prompted for credentials. However, the pop-up window opens.

Method 2

Upgrade to Internet Explorer 8, and enable protected mode for all zones.

There is no workaround method that you can use in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This security featur eis working correctly.
