FIX: A policy is evaluated against an incorrect target when you run the policy category in evaluation mode on a remote server that is running SQL Server 2008

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft SQL Server 2008, you run a policy category in evaluation mode on a remote server. However, the policy is evaluated against an incorrect target, and you receive an incorrect result for the policy.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the local store is used instead of the remote store to obtain the category data and the subscription data for the policy.

RESOLUTION

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Manually select targets for each policy from the remote server instead of relying on the policy category.
  • Run the policy from the local server.
