You receive an error message that contains error code 3221685941 when you install Exchange Server 2010

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, you may receive the following error message if a domain controller is not available:
An error occurred with error code '3221685941' and message 'The interface is unknown.'

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Exchange Server 2010 setup process cannot contact a domain controller. This problem occurs because the domain controller does not respond to a NETLOGON call from the Exchange server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, make sure that the domain controller is online and available, and then run the Exchange Server 2010 setup again.
