SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you connect a mini-DVD based camcorder over a USB connection. However, the device is not recognized by the computer. Additionally, Device Manager displays a yellow exclamation sign (!) next to the camcorder device.

This problem typically occurs on computers that have Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 installed. It also occurs on computers that have one of the following versions of the USBstor.sys file:
  • Usbstor.sys, version 6.0.6001.18143, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1
  • Usbstor.sys, version 6.0.6001.22267, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1
Additionally, this problem may also occur with USB storage devices, such as USB memory sticks. If your USB storage device stops working after you upgrade the system to Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or after you install a hotfix rollup package, it is most likely that you are experiencing this problem.
