Symptom

When installing SQL Server 2008 from a network based location (like a network share or a mounted drive), the setup program may fail with an unhandled exception and a Dr.Watson log report is generated.

Cause



Status: Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Resolution

Copy the installation media for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 program to a reliable location like a local disk, stable network location etc., and restart the setup program.
