Random Stop errors on a Windows Server 2003-based computer that performs input/output to file shares hosted on another computer or to a network-attached storage device

SYMPTOMS

You receive random Stop error messages when a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 performs input/output (I/O) to file shares hosted on another computer, or to a network-attached storage device. For example, you may receive the following Stop error messages:
  • Stop 0x0000000A (parameter1, 0000000c, parameter3, parameter4)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
  • Stop 0x0000000A (parameter1, 00000002, parameter3, parameter4)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
  • Stop 0x00000019 (00000020, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
    BAD_POOL_HEADER
  • Stop 0x0000007E (c0000005, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

CAUSE

Certain patterns of I/O loading and unloading can cause timing problems, and can corrupt some system structures that are used by the Memory Manager.

RESOLUTION

A terminal server that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 restarts unexpectedly after hotfix 971280 or security update 971486 (MS09-058) is installed
