SYMPTOMS

You develop an application that uses the SetCursorPos function to change the pointer position on the screen. The application moves the pointer position to a link in Windows Internet Explorer when the link receives keyboard focus. However, when you run the application on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, the SetCursorPos function does not locate the position of the focal link in Windows Internet Explorer 8.

For example, you run the application and then use Internet Explorer 8 to view a Web page that contains several links. When you press TAB to assign the focus to a different link, the pointer does not move to the link that received the focus.

Note When a link obtains keyboard focus, the URL of the link is displayed in the status bar in Internet Explorer.

This issue occurs when protected mode is enabled and when the Web site is not in the Trusted Sites zone in Internet Explorer 8.
