The product expiration date is activated incorrectly when you install 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2

SYMPTOMS

When you install the 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2 package, the product expiration date is activated incorrectly. As a result, any of the products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article will expire 180 days after Service Pack 2 is deployed, as if you had performed a trial installation. The activation of the expiration date will not affect the regular function of these products until the expiration date passes. The expiration date will pass 180 days after you deploy Service Pack 2. If a product expires, its expiration will not affect data, configuration, or application code. However, the Office Server product will be inaccessible to end-users.

Additionally, Office SharePoint Server Trial with Enterprise Client Access License, or a similar product, is displayed on the Convert License page.

The following will be seen in Microsoft Office Project Server 2007:

"Trial Version Has Expired"

The following page error will be seen by Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 users:

"Unexpected Error"

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the installation of the 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2 activates the product expiration date incorrectly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install one of the following updates. These updates are available from the Microsoft Download Center.

Note One of these updates must be deployed on all SharePoint servers that are part of a SharePoint Server Farm.

How to obtain Microsoft support files from online services

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

The updates that are described here are included in any Office SharePoint Server 2007 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (MOSS server-package) released after June 2009.

To resolve this issue manually, type the product key on the Convert License Type page. To do this, follow these steps:

NOTE: If Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 is integrated in the environment then the patch will be required rather than the below manual steps

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
Click the Operations tab.
Click Convert License Type.
In the Enter the Product Key text box, type your product identification number, and then click OK.

The License Synchronizer Job will run on all computers in the farm after several moments. After all the computers have updated their license from the timer job, the Convert License Type page will reflect the correct license.

If you do not have your product key, you can retrieve it by logging on to the Volume Licensing Service Center

Note The manual solution will not work for Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express because this product does not use a product key.
If the Convert License Type page no longer indicates that you are in trial mode, the update was successfully installed.

Q: When I try to follow the steps in the "Resolution" section, I am notified that my product key is not valid.

A: If multiple SKUs are installed, you must provide the product key for the most inclusive product. Use the product key of the product that is listed highest in the following ordered list:

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
Search Server 2008, Search Server 2008 Express, or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Search
Microsoft Office Project Server 2007

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 is not affected.
