SYMPTOMS

When you try to download an item from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the download fails and you receive error code 80070017. If you try to download the game again, the failure occurs at the same point (typically 99 percent).

THINGS TO TRY

Solution 1: Delete any incomplete downloads

The temporary download files that are stored on the Xbox 360 console might be corrupted.

The best way to fix this problem is to delete these temporary files and to download the content again. Here's how:
  1. On your console, go to Settings hub, and then select System.
  2. Select Storage, and then select your storage device (most likely, a hard drive).
  3. Select the content type that you are trying to download.
  4. Select the content or the game that you are trying to download.
  5. Delete the pending item download, which is identified by a yellow warning icon. This icon indicates that the content is corrupted or incomplete.
  6. Clear the console cache. For information on how to do this, please see the following article:
971755  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971755/ ) How to clear the Xbox 360 console cache
  7. Download the item again. For information on how to do this, please see the following article:
962228  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962228/ ) How to download previously purchased content from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace

If you still cannot download the item, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Download to a different storage device

Try to download the item to a different storage device (for example, to a different hard drive, memory unit, or USB flash drive).

If you still cannot download the item, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Simplify your setup

Try to simplify your network setup. To learn how to do this, please see step 2 in the following article:
909817  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909817/ ) You experience slow performance playing on Xbox LIVE
Once your setup is simplified, try to download the content again. If you have the same problem, try the next solution.

Solution 4: Delete and reinstall the game

As a last resort, you might be able to correct this problem by deleting the game for which you are trying to download new content, reinstalling the game, and then trying to download the content again.

Note When you delete a game, all of the information about that game is also deleted. We recommend that you copy your saved games to an Xbox 360 Memory Unit before deleting the game itself. That way, you can copy the saved game information back to your Xbox console after you delete and re-install the game. For information on how to copy content to another storage device, please see the following article:
906942  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906942/ ) How to copy, move, or delete content from an Xbox 360 storage device
To delete and re-install a game
  1. On your Xbox 360 console, sign in with your Xbox LIVE gamertag.
  2. On your console, go to Settings hub, and select System.
  3. Select Storage, and then select your storage device (most likely, a hard drive).
  4. Select your primary memory device (most likely a hard drive).
  5. Select Games & Apps.
  6. Select the game that has the problem, and then press Y on your controller.
  7. Select Delete.
  8. On the Delete Content screen, select Yes.
  9. Press B on the controller until you return to the Xbox Dashboard.
  10. Clear the console cache. For information on how to do this, please see the following article:
971755  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971755/ ) How to clear the Xbox 360 console cache
  11. If the game you deleted was installed from a disc, install the game again. If the game was downloaded from Xbox LIVE, download the game again. For information on how to do this, please see the following article:
962228  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962228/ ) How to download previously purchased content from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace
  12. Copy the saved game from your memory unit or USB drive back to your Xbox 360’s hard drive.
  13. Try to download the item again.
