SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services, you have a report that contains a table and at least 2 levels of table groups. The table has multiple records.
  • You define a Drillthrough action inside the table groups. This Drillthrough action uses links to redirect you to another report, and this Drillthrough passes a parameter value to the other report.
  • You use a toggle or a visibility expression to hide the first row. For example, row X would be the first visible row in the table if you do not use toggles or visibility expressions. After you use a toggle or a visibility expression, row X is hidden by the toggle or the visibility expression. Therefore, row Y becomes the first visible row in the table.
In this situation, the Drillthrough action on row Y may have an incorrect value.

Note If the Drillthrough action is run on the subsequent rows after the first visible row, the Drillthrough action has a correct value.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because an incorrect parameter value is passed when the Drillthrough action occurs. Therefore, the state of a member variable is not updated appropriately. This causes the Drillthrough action on the first visible row to have the value from the first row in the table. However, if the Drillthrough action is run on the subsequent rows, the state is updated appropriately.

RESOLUTION

Cumulative Update information

The fix for this issue was first released in Cumulative Update 3 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. For more information about this cumulative update package, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
971491 Cumulative update package 3 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1
Note Because the builds are cumulative, each new fix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. Microsoft recommends that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
970365 The SQL Server 2008 builds that were released after SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 was released
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
