Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

You run the x64-based version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode. You try to install the SharePoint add-in for the ClickOnce version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Report Builder 2.0 (RB2ClickOnce.msi) that is included in SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. When you run this installation file, you receive the following error message even though the SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint add-in has already been installed on the computer:

Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint products and technologies is not installed. It must be installed before you can install SQL Server 2008 Report Builder 2.0 for SharePoint.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the installation file does not check whether the SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint add-in is already installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

Note Because the builds are cumulative, each new fix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. Microsoft recommends that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix. The SQL Server 2008 builds that were released after SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 was released
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
