MORE INFORMATION

Known issues with this security update

  • After you apply this security update, you may receive an error message that resembles the following when you start Office Outlook 2007:
Outlook is being prepared for first use
For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
979955 You are prompted to prepare Office Outlook 2007 for first use after you apply security update 972363
  • This update changes the CLSID of the Outlook View Control and sets the killbit for the previous CLSID to make sure that the earlier version of the control cannot be instantiated in Internet Explorer. The new CLSID is {261B8CA9-3BAF-4BD0-B0C2-BF04286785C6}. The old CLSID is {0468C085-CA5B-11D0-AF08-00609797F0E0}. If you are using the Outlook View Control in a compiled or managed application, you may have to update your solution to reference the new CLSID. Solutions that use Visual Basic for Applications in Microsoft Office do not have to be updated and will continue to function as expected.
  • After you install this update, the Outlook View Control may not function in those programs that use Microsoft Forms 2.0 functionality. To resolve this issue, install the following security update for the 2007 Office suite:
974234 MS09-060: Description of the security update for the 2007 Office system: October 13, 2009
  • If you uninstall this update, the Outlook View Control may not function as expected. This occurs because uninstalling this update removes components that affect the performance of the Outlook View Control. To resolve this issue, you must repair the 2007 Office suite to reinstall those components. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    3. Click Microsoft Office Edition 2007, and then click Change.

Note In this option, Edition represents the Microsoft Office edition that is installed on the computer.
    4. Click Repair, and then click Continue.

Prerequisites

You must have either the 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 1 (SP1) or the 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed to apply this security update.

To obtain the 2007 Microsoft Office suite SP1, you must download the service pack from the Microsoft Download Center.
