SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You set up a terminal server session on a terminal server that is running Windows Server 2003.
  • You run an application in this terminal server session. This application passes a registry key name that is longer than 255 characters.
In this scenario, the application crashes.

CAUSE

When an application runs in a terminal server session, the registry operations are handled by the TSAppcmp.dll module. However, the module cannot handle a registry key name parameter that is longer than 255 characters. Therefore, if an application passes a registry key name that is longer than 255 characters, the application crashes.
