This article describes the Microsoft Office Communicator 2007, Phone Edition issue that is fixed in the Office Communicator 2007 R2, Phone Edition update that is dated December 2009.
Issue that this update package fixesThis update fixes an issue in which you experience double amplification on an audio device that was produced after August 2009. This issue occurs because a new amplifier is added to the hardware of the device when you connect to Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. The new amplifier is a hardware component that provides fixed gain to the incoming and the outgoing audio signals. Before you add a new amplifier to the hardware of the device, you use software to control amplification. However, the old software does not recognize the new hardware. Therefore, you experience double amplification.
Note You should only use Microsoft Office Communicator 2007, Phone Edition on devices that were produced after August 2009 and that work with Office Communications Server 2007. You should continue to use an earlier version of Office Communicator 2007, Phone Edition on devices that were produced before August 2009. Earlier versions of Office Communicator 2007, Phone Edition include software amplification that provides a better end-user experience.
This update enables the software to identify the new hardware. After you apply this update, the software also disables the intrinsic feature on the audio digital signal processor (DSP) chip. Therefore, you do not experience double amplification on audio devices that were produced after August 2009.
