SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario in Office Communications Server 2007 R2:
  • The gateway side of a mediation server interacts with an Internet Protocol (IP)-Private Branch Exchange (PBX) that uses the Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging Service for voice mail.
  • The set of Office Communications Server users are distinct set from the set of IP-PBX users.
  • When an Office Communicator user makes a call to an IP-PBX user who does not answer, the call is sent to the Exchange Unified Messaging Service.
  • The Exchange Unified Messaging Service returns a 302 Redirect message for the call. Then, the IP-PBX may send this 302 to the mediation server.
When the mediation server receives the 302 Redirect message, the mediation server does not copy the Diversion header or the History-Info header from the 302 Redirect message to the corresponding Invite that is triggered by the mediation server. However, because the Exchange Unified Messaging Service does not know the destination box for the Office Communicator user, the call fails.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, apply the following update:
  • 970679 Description of the update package for Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Unified Communications Managed API 2.0 Core Redist 64-bit: July 2009
After you install this Hotfix package, the Mediation Server copies any Diversion header or any History-Info header that are received in a 302 Redirect message on its gateway side to the triggered Invite that it sends on its gateway side. Therefore, when the Exchange Unified Messaging Service receives the triggered Invite, it knows the destination box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
