An additional scroll bar appears when you use Outlook 2003 to open a SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services report that is sent in MHTML format in an e-mail message

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services report that contains a single page. This page is long enough to have a scroll bar.
  • You configure the report server to use e-mail subscriptions.
  • You configure the report server to send a report in the MIME Encapsulated Aggregate HTML Documents (MHTML) Web archive format.
  • You use Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 to open the report that is sent in an e-mail message.
In this scenario, you find that the report contains two scroll bars.

Note This issue does not occur if you use Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to open the report.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Outlook 2003 uses the Windows Internet Explorer renderer to show the e-mail message. When the report server generates an MHTML report, some properties are set incorrectly. This causes an additional scroll bar to appear. Outlook 2007 uses the Microsoft Office Word renderer to show the e-mail message. Therefore, this issue does not occur in Outlook 2007.

Note Because the builds are cumulative, each new fix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. Microsoft recommends that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix. The SQL Server 2008 builds that were released after SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 was released
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
