Error message when you try to run a query in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run a query in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you intermittently receive the following error message:
Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Query.SearchServiceNotFoundException: The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.
at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Query.FullTextSqlQuery.Execute()
However, all the search servers are actually available at that time.

Note This problem rarely occurs.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the following hotfixes:
973409 Description of the Office SharePoint Server 2007 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (Coreserver.msp): August 25, 2009
973410 Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (Sts.msp): August 25, 2009
