Only the first character appears for some strings in the event messages when you query the DFS Replication event log on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008Article ID: 973275 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you query the DFS Replication event log in Windows Server 2008, only the first character appears for some strings in the event messages. The rest of the characters in these strings are truncated. You frequently encounter this problem when you use the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Agent or the Get-Eventlog Windows PowerShell cmdlet to query the DFS Replication event log. For example, we have the following description for an event in the DFS Replication event log: When you query this event, you obtain the following message for this event: CAUSEThis problem occurs because Windows Server 2008 R2 uses an incorrect switch to create and to maintain the source file for event messages of Distributed File System (DFS) Replication. Because of this incorrect switch, Unicode characters are interpreted as ASCII characters. RESOLUTION A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft.
