SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Group Chat Administration Tool, when you add new entries to the role list of a chat room or a category, you receive a message that states that the list cannot be saved because it exceeds the limit.
This problem occurs because the total number of the entries that define the roles is greater than 200.

RESOLUTION

To fix this problem, apply the following update:
969817  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969817/ ) Description of the update for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Administration Tool: July 2009
After you apply this update, the 200 role limit is no longer imposed. The administrator should manage the permissions of the chat rooms by using Active Directory user groups where it is possible.

Note There is a memory and a performance penalty that is associated with a configuration that uses individual users to define the permissions for chat rooms.
