SYMPTOMS

You configure a crawl to use the Crawl only the SharePoint site of each start address option for a content source in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. After you register a custom security trimmer, the value of the PluggableSecurityTrimmerId registry key is not updated.

Notes
  • This problem does not occur if you use the Crawl everything under the host name of each start address option for a content source.
  • The PluggableSecurityTrimmerId registry key is located under the following registry subkeys:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Applications\<GUID>\Gather\Portal_Content\Sites\spdev024\Paths\0
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\12.0\Search\Applications\<GUID>\Gather\Portal_Content\Sites\spdev024\Paths\1

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the following two updates:
973409 Description of the Office SharePoint Server 2007 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (Coreserver.msp): September 9, 2009
973410 Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (Sts.msp): August 25, 2009

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
