You cannot convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk when the computer name contains double-byte characters

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you cannot convert a basic disk into a dynamic disk. When you try to convert a basic disk, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Package name is invalid

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the computer name contains double-byte characters, such as hanzi (Chinese), kanji (Japanese), or hanja (Korean).

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use single-byte characters for the computer name.

To rename the computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start

    , right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, click Change settings.
  3. On the Computer Name tab, click Change.
  4. Type a new name under Computer name, and then click OK.

    Note Do not type double-byte characters.
