RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, OR IS INTENDED SUPPLEMENT OTHER KNOWLEDGE BASE INFORMATION.
When you try to modify the content of a zip file on a network share and if the zip file has a long file name, you may observe that the long file name is truncated to a short file name after the file content has been modified.
This is caused by a design limitation in the zip library in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008.
If you are experiencing this issue, please use a short file name instead of a long file name for the zip file to avoid any potential data loss.
