When you move or rotate your Zune HD player, it does not respond as expected

SYMPTOMS

When you rotate your Zune HD player while you are viewing photos or surfing the Internet, the display does not switch from portrait to landscape orientation.

CAUSE

A hardware component of the Zune device that senses movement has to be recalibrated. This component is known as an accelerometer.

Note Some features of the device do not respond to movement. These features include the following:
  • music
  • videos
  • radio
  • marketplace
  • social
  • podcasts
  • settings

THINGS TO TRY

To resolve this issue, you have to recalibrate the accelerometer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the home screen, select settings.
  2. Select ABOUT, and then select RESET ACCELEROMETER.
  3. Set your Zune device on a flat surface, such as a desk or a table.
  4. Press OK.
  5. Do not move the player while it is calibrating.
  6. When the process is complete, press OK.
