In Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, you copy a draft e-mail message from the Drafts folder and then paste the draft message into the Drafts folder or into another folder in the mailbox. In the draft message, you select the Request a Read Receipt check box to receive a notification when this message is read. Then, you use the draft message as a template to send e-mail messages. In this case, the read receipts that you receive are not exactly related to the sent messages.

For example, you send two e-mail messages that have different subjects and you request read receipts when these two messages are read. However, the subjects of the read receipts for these two messages that you receive are the same.

To resolve this problem, install the following hotfix package:
973404 Description of the Outlook 2007 hotfix package (Outlook-x-none.msp): August 25, 2009

This hotfix package only fixes the problem that occurs when the following two conditions are true:
  • You copy and then paste the draft e-mail message into the Drafts folder.
  • Outlook 2007 is connected to a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
