You cannot install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, install Update Rollups for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, or create additional organizations in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 without system administrator privileges in Microsoft SQL Server

When you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, install Update Rollups for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, or when you create additional organizations in an existing deployment in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you must have system administrator privileges. You expect to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, install Update Rollups for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, and to create additional organizations in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 without system administrator privileges in Microsoft SQL Server.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. Installation information

Install this hotfix on computers that are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server components.
To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:

1. Install the hotfix.
   
   Note This hotfix contains two database files and two Microsoft SQL Server script files.
2. Locate the following files that are installed by the hotfix:
   • mscrm7333.mdf
   • metabase.mdf
   • HardDeleteJob.sql
   • SiteWideCleanupJob.sql
3. Use a credential of an instance of Microsoft SQL Server that has privileges to attach databases to attach databases to the following database files:
   • mscrm7333.mdf
   • metabase.mdf
   When you attach the databases, change the name of the mscrm7333.mdf file to "OrgName_MSCRM.mdf" and change the name of the metabase.mdf file to "Metabase.mdf."
   
   Note The OrgName placeholder represents the actual organization name.
4. Create a SQL Server logon account for the CRM installing user and grant the user create database rights.
5. For both databases that have database file attached, change the owner of the databases to the user who will install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
   
   Note The user will become the initial deployment administrator in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
6. Create a Microsoft SQL Server logon account for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server and for the following Microsoft Dynamics CRM security groups, and then grant the server and the groups access to the two databases:
   • Priv Reporting Group
   • Reporting Group
   • SQL Access Group
7. On the computer on which you want to install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server, add the following registry entries:
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM\CrmAdminIsNotSqlSysAdmin
     
     The CrmAdminIsNotSqlSysAdmin DWORD value is 1.
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM\IgnoreChecks
     
     The IgnoreChecks DWORD value is 1.
8. Create a configuration file that can be used to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
   
   Note When you create the configuration file, you must use preconfigured security groups and you must specify the corresponding setup for this Self-Healing Setup hotfix.

9. Use the configuration file that you created in step 7 to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
   
   Note If the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server has an Internet connection, you must click Update installation files during the installation. If no internet connection is available, follow the steps in KB948917 to obtain setup updates and include the path in the configuration file.

10. After you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, log on to the instance of Microsoft SQL Server by using the credential of the deployment administrator, and then run the following script files:
    • SiteWideCleanupJob.sql
    • HardDelete.sql

To add an additional organization to an existing deployment, follow these steps before you create the new organization:

1. Use a credential of an instance of Microsoft SQL Server that has privileges to attach databases to attach databases to the following database files:
   • mscrm7333.mdf
   • metabase.mdf
   When you attach the databases, change the name of the mscrm7333.mdf file to "OrgName_MSCRM.mdf" and change the name of the metabase.mdf file to "Metabase.mdf."
   
   Note The OrgName placeholder represents the actual organization name.
2. For both databases that have database file attached, change the owner of the databases to the user who install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
   
   Note The user is also the initial deployment administrator in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted to restart the computer, you must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
