You cannot uninstall ADMT 3.1 after you perform an in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2

Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

After you perform an in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2, you cannot uninstall the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) 3.1.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Admtsetup.exe cannot run on any operating system other than Windows Server 2008, and Admtsetup.exe is also used to uninstall the tool.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this issue, uninstall ADMT 3.1 before you upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2.

To work around this issue, if ADMT 3.1 is not uninstalled before the upgrade, type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to uninstall ADMT 3.1:
%windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /x {F24F5CFB-B3AA-4EBB-BA61-A916DBEE37D5} /norestart /qn /log %windir%\ADMT\Logs\admtmsiuninstall.log
If ADMT 3.1 is configured to use a local database instance, you can uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express by using the Add/Remove Programs item in Control Panel.
