Microsoft SQL Server 2005 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 contains hotfixes for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 issues that have been fixed since the release of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3.
Note
This build of the cumulative update package is also known as build 9.00.4266.
Important notes about the cumulative update package
SQL Server 2005 hotfixes are now multilanguage. Therefore, there is only one cumulative hotfix package for all languages.
One cumulative hotfix package includes all the component packages. The cumulative update package updates only those components that are installed on the system.
You must enable the SQL Server Management Object (SMO) extended stored procedures and the SQL Server Distributed Management Object (SQL-DMO) extended stored procedures before you apply the cumulative update package. For more information about the
SMO and DMO XPs
option, see SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Note
SQL Server 2005 Books Online notes that the default setting of these stored procedures is 0 (off). However, this value is incorrect. By default, the setting is 1 (on).
How to obtain Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3
A supported cumulative update package is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problems that are described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing these specific problems. This cumulative update package may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by any of these problems, we recommend that you wait for the next SQL Server 2005 service pack that contains the hotfixes in this cumulative update package.
If the cumulative update is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the cumulative update package.
Note If additional issues occur or any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific cumulative update package. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support telephone numbers or to create a separate service request, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Note The "Hotfix Download Available" form displays the languages for which the cumulative update is available. If you do not see your language, it is because a cumulative update package is not available for that language.
FIX: The memory usage of a SQL Server service increases quickly when you run a query that uses a linked server in SQL Server 2005 or in SQL Server 2008
FIX: The synchronization of a merge publication that uses Web synchronization takes a very long time to finish after the initial synchronization in SQL Server 2005
FIX: You use the COUNT function on a column that is returned by a subquery that returns no rows in SQL Server 2005, and an incorrect result is returned
FIX: The removal of a transaction log file from the database on the principal server causes a database mirroring session to be suspended in SQL Server 2005 or in SQL Server 2008
FIX: Orphan data corruptions are reported when you run a "DBCC CHECKDB" statement or a "DBCC CHECKTABLE" statement after rebuilding an XML index in SQL Server 2005
FIX: The database mirroring session is suspended when you add more than one log transaction file to a folder on the principle server that does not exist on the mirror server
FIX: You cannot process an object when you change or delete another unrelated object at the same time in the same database in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services
FIX: You receive an incorrect result when you run an MDX query against a dimension that has a parent/child relationship, and uses the unary operator after you install Cumulative Update 3 for SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services SP3
FIX:Error message after you perform a Process Update on a dimension used on a cube that contains a writeback partition: "Errors in the high-level relational engine. The data source view does not contain a definition for the <tablename> table or view"
FIX: The latency is high for all the Peer-To-Peer transactional replication agents when you insert lots of rows in a batch to multiple publications in a SQL Server 2005 Peer-To-Peer transactional replication
