SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • A team project on a Microsoft Team Foundation Server contains an extensively customized work item type.
  • In Microsoft Excel, you click New List on the Team menu, and then you connect to the team project.
  • You select the customized work item type, and then you click OK.
In this scenario, you intermittently receive the following error message:
TF80070: Team Foundation Server encountered an error while performing an operation. It is recommended that you save your work and restart the application.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Explorer Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on the server.

Note You should only install this client hotfix when you have Team Explorer 2008 SP1 installed on the Team Foundation Server.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
