SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you try to burn some content to a recordable Blu-ray disc.
  • The Blu-ray disc is an empty dual-layer Blu-ray disc that has approximately 50 gigabytes (GB) of free space.
  • The content that you try to burn exceeds half of the free space on the disc. For example, you try to burn 27GBs of content to the Blu-ray disc.
In this scenario, the operation fails and you receive the following error message:
There was a problem burning this disc
The disc does not have enough free space for all of the files you selected.
This problem can occur with any DVD or CD burning applications that use Image Mastering File System Imaging API v2 (IMAPI2FS). However, the actual symptoms may differ.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Image Mastering File System Imaging API v2 incorrectly sets the value of the free media blocks to the default size of each media type. When data is burned to a dual-layer Blu-ray disc, the value of the free media blocks is set to the capacity of a single-layer Blu-ray disc. The capacity of a single-layer Blue-ray disc is approximately 25GBs.

RESOLUTION

  • Service Pack 1 is integrated into the original release of Windows Server 2008.
  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately. The MUM and the MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files (attributes not listed) are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
