SUMMARY

This article describes the Microsoft Office Word 2007 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated October 27, 2009.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • You have a document that shows the differences that result from a comparison between two other documents. When you try to save the result document in the .docx format in Office Word 2007, you receive the following error message:

    A file error has occurred
This problem occurs when the original document or the revised document has a text box or has a content control.

  • When you group a Rich Text content control in an Office Word 2007 document, you cannot make a bulleted list or a numbered list from the text within the control.

  • You open an Office Word document in the Traditional Chinese version (Taiwan) of Office Word 2007.Then, you notice that the amount of memory that is used by Office Word 2007 continuously increases.

  • When you open an HTML file in Office Word 2007, a hyperlink in the file is invalid. This problem occurs when the hyperlink contains one of the following characters:
    Collapse this tableExpand this table
    CodeCharacterDescription
    0x201Cleft double quotation mark
    0x201Dright double quotation mark
    0x201Edouble low-9 quotation mark
    0x00AB«left-pointing double angle quotation mark
    0x00BB»right-pointing double angle quotation mark

  • You access a Word document that is in a shared folder from a client computer. The computer enters standby. After the computer resumes from standby, you receive the following error message:

Word Cannot establish a network connection with this document after the system resumed from suspend mode. Save the document into a different file to keep any changes
  • Your e-mail replies contain an automatic signature. You reply to an e-mail message that is written in a right-to-left language such as Arabic or Hebrew. Even though the text in your reply message is formatted from left to right, the automatic signature is displayed incorrectly from right to left. This problem occurs when the incoming e-mail message is not composed in Microsoft WordMail or when the message is sent from a third-party mail client.

  • You print an Office Word 2007 document by printing two pages on one sheet for the first time. However, the printout is scaled to a very small size on localized operating systems. This problem occurs when the document has manual page breaks.

  • You insert subdocuments that are located on a network folder into a master document in Office Word 2007. You save the master document. Then, you unexpectedly receive a message that asks you to save another document. This document is a temporary copy of the last subdocument that was inserted during the current session.

  • You try to use the Range.FormattedText property to copy a range of information from an Office Word 2007 document to another Office Word 2007 document. When the range contains text, formatting, images, and text boxes, the images and the text boxes are not copied.

  • You insert an Office Word 2007 object into an Office Excel 2007 file. When you change the size of the object, the font size of the string in the object is changed unexpectedly.

  • You copy and then paste a string in Office Word 2007. When you press ENTER, the text in the next line disappears. This problem occurs after you install any update for Word 2007 whose version is 12.0.6504.5000 or later versions.

  • When you copy and then paste styles in an Office Word 2007 template, some paragraphs that are in building blocks are automatically numbered. This problem occurs when a paragraph starts with the following sequence: a number, a period, and a tab space.

  • You open an HTML file that contains left-aligned nested tables. When you open the file in Office Word 2007 Service Pack 2, Office Word 2007 becomes unresponsive.

  • Paragraph numbers are displayed in reversed order when an Office Word 2007 file is saved in the .pdf format or in the .xps format. This problem occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
    • The number has more than one digit. For example, "12" in the original file is displayed as "21" in the .pdf file or in the .xps file.
    • The number is a multilevel number. For example, "5.1.3" in the original file is displayed as "3.1.5" in the .pdf file or in the .xps file.

  • When you try to expand subdocuments from a master document in Office Word 2007, Office Word 2007 crashes.

Note This problem does not occur in Microsoft Office Word 2003.

  • You use the Replace feature to replace two paragraph marks (^p^p) with a single paragraph mark (^p) in Office Word 2007. Then, pictures that are between the two paragraph marks are deleted unexpectedly.

  • You have an Office Word 2007 document that has the Password to modify option enabled. When you use the Documents.Open method to open the document, password protection is ignored.

  • You establish a slow printer connection. For example, you connect to a network printer through a laptop virtual private network (VPN) connection. When you open an Office Word 2007 document, you receive the following message:
Connecting to printer. Press ESC to cancel
Then, when you press ESC, Office Word 2007 crashes.

  • When you copy a chart in an Office Excel 2007 file, and then paste the chart to an Office Outlook 2007 mail message, the chart is displayed incorrectly. For example, the chart is resized, or a legend entry is missing.

  • You open an HTML document or a document that is converted from an HTML document in Office Word 2007. When you run a macro to insert a table of contents entry into the document, Office Word 2007 crashes. This problem occurs when all the following conditions are true:
    • You insert the table of contents entry in a bookmark location.
    • The bookmark is in a right-to-left table.
    • There is another nested right-to-left table that is above the location of the table of contents entry in the document.
    • The document opens in the Web Layout view and in a maximized window.
  • When you use the mail merge functionality to distribute content to other users, Office Word 2007 becomes unresponsive.

  • You use the VbCrLf constant to insert line breaks into the document variables of an Office Word 2007 document. If you save the document in the .docx format, you notice that two line breaks were inserted instead of one.
