You receive an error message if you run Start-EdgeSynchronization command together with a -Server parameter that targets an Exchange 2010 Hub server on an Exchange 2007 Service Pack 2 server

SYMPTOMS

If you run the Start-EdgeSynchronization command that uses a -Server parameter that targets an Exchange Server 2010 Hub server on a server that is running Exchange Server 2007 SP2, you receive the following error message:
The stub received bad data"

CAUSE

This issue occurs only when you run the Start-EdgeSynchronization command in the middle of upgrading from Exchange Server 2007 SP2 to Exchange Server 2010 in a mixed version environment.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, run the Start-EdgeSynchronization command on the Exchange Server 2010 server directly instead of using the Start-EdgeSynchronization command together with a -Server parameter from a server that is running Exchange Server 2007 SP2.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
