Decreased performance when you run Excel 2008 for Mac on Snow Leopard

SYMPTOMS

When you run Excel 2008 for Mac in Page Layout View on a computer that is running Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, you might experience decreased performance.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you have one of certain printers set as your default printer, and your printer paper size is set to a value other than "US Letter."

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue, try the following methods:

Method 1: Set the default page view to Normal view

  1. On the Excel menu, click Preferences.
  2. Click View.
  3. On the Preferred view for new sheets pop-up menu, select Normal.
  4. Click OK. All new workbooks will now open in Normal view.

    Note If you have an existing workbook set to Page Layout View, you must change the view to Normal view in the workbook, save, and then reopen the workbook.

Method 2: Change the default printer paper size to "US Letter"

  1. On the Finder menu, click System Preferences.
  2. Under Hardware, click Print & Fax.
  3. For Default Paper Size on the Page Setup pop-up menu, select US Letter.

Method 3: Change the default printer

  1. On the Finder menu, click System Preferences.
  2. Under Hardware, click Print & Fax.
  3. On the Default Printer pop-up menu, select another printer.
