Stop error message after you install a WFP callout driver in Windows Vista SP2 or in Windows Server 2008 SP2: "Stop error code 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)"

You have a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Server 2008 SP2. You install a third-party Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) callout driver. In this situation, you may receive a Stop error message on a blue screen. The Stop error message resembles the following:Notes

• The four parameters in the Stop error message may vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
• Not all "Stop 0x0000000A" error messages are caused by this problem.
• WFP callout drivers are usually used in third-party antivirus and firewall programs.

After the third-party WFP callout driver intercepts a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packet, the driver clones and then holds back the cloned UDP packet. Then, the driver checks the cloned UDP packet and injects the cloned UDP packet back. If the WFP callout driver does not finish checking and injecting the cloned UDP packet back, the WFP callout driver will try to intercept a second UDP packet. This causes a race condition to occur.

• The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
