Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • The Failover Clustering feature is installed on some computers that are running Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Some file system filter drivers that are transaction-aware are installed on the failover cluster node. For example, the following filter drivers may use the transaction manager:

    • An FSRM Quota filter driver

    • An antivirus filter driver

    • A Hierarchical Storage Management system filter driver

    • An archival system filter driver

  • An application or a service creates a transaction and then commits it.

In this scenario, the CommitTransaction function call fails together with the following error message:

6704 (0x1A30) ERROR_TRANSACTION_ALREADY_ABORTED
Description: It is too late to perform the requested operation, since the Transaction has already been aborted.
