Article ID: 977760 - Last Review: December 11, 2009 - Revision: 1.0 You may receive an incorrect "Previous Versions" list and be unable to restore snapshots from the "Previous Versions" dialog box on a computer that is running Windows 7 if the file server is running Windows Server 2003
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario:
CAUSEThis problem occurs because the Downlevel Timewarp feature is enabled on the file servers. This feature incorrectly returns a "valid directory" response for some incorrectly formatted directory requests. Note The Downlevel Timewarp feature was developed to support a client that is running Windows 95 or Windows 98. By default, the registry key is not enabled. However, it is enabled in Windows Small Business Server 2003. Users who have implemented this registry key or who use Small Business Server 2003 together with "Previous Versions" functionality for file shares may be affected. The registry key can be found at the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters Key Name: DisableDownLevelTimewarp Type: DWORD Value: 00000000 RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, perform the following operation on the file server that is causing the issue. Back up your registry files, and then change the value of the DisableDownLevelTimewarp key to 00000001.
The registry key can be found at the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters Key Name: DisableDownLevelTimewarp Type: DWORD Value: 00000001 Note This registry change does not require a server restart. After you change the registry value, verify that you can correctly view and restore a snapshot of an earlier version by using the computer that is running Windows 7. APPLIES TO
