SYMPTOMS

A hyperlink is converted to plain text format when you input the hyperlink into a Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 conversation window.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the hyperlink handler that you input is not a recognized protocol handler. Therefore, Office Communicator 2007 R2 converts the hyperlink to plain text format.

Note Safe protocol handlers include HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, MAILTO, NEWS, ABOUT, CALLTO, CONF, IM, MEET, SIP, SIPS, and TEL.

RESOLUTION

To fix this problem, apply the update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:
976135  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976135/ ) Description of the Communicator 2007 R2 cumulative update: January 2010
After you install the update, you can enable the Allow hyperlinks in instant messages option in Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Client Group Policy (Communicator.adm). This option lets any additional protocol be displayed after the link name.

For example, you enter a hyperlink for the name of "Test" such as test:\\machine. However, the hyperlink is displayed as "Test" (test:\\machineA) in the Office Communicator 2007 R2 conversation window.

STATUS
