Symptoms

You create an Alert Notification subscription in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager. If you use the "With specific text in description" option, e-mail notification messages are not sent.

This problem occurs when the criteria for which you are searching is a variable.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, do not use a variable in an Alert Notification description field.

The subscription module can query against the Alert fields, as those fields exist in the database.

If the description field in the database contains static text that resembles "This is Kevin's description for alert with id 55586", you can search for specific criteria by using the "With specific text in description" option to find the text "55586" because the static text "55586" is stored in the database.

If the description field in the database contains a variable, the resolved value of the variable is not stored in the database. The variable is stored in the database. For example, the description field in the database contains text with a variable that resembles "This is Kevin's description for alert with id $AlertId$", you can use the "With specific text in description" option to find the variable $AlertId$ because the variable is stored in the database. However, if you use the "With specific text in description" option to find the resolved value "55586" of the variable, the value is not found. This is because the resolved value of the variable is not stored in the database when the query is run.
