SYMPTOMS

When Tanjay devices contact the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 update server for an update request, Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition on the Tanjay devices is downgraded to Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Phone Edition. After the device is downgraded to Office Communicator 2007 Phone Edition, the device will be upgraded on the next update request to the latest build that the local admin has hosted on the update server.

Note This issue only occurs on Tanjay devices that have a manufacturing date of September, 2009. When this issue occurs, a multistep update process occurs.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Tanjay devices were built with an incorrect guard block version of 0.0.0.0. A correct guard block version number is needed to request device updates.
