SYMPTOMS

You cannot install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 device client on mobile devices that are running Windows Embedded CE 6.0.

RESOLUTION

After you install this hotfix, you can install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 device client on mobile devices that are running the following system:
  • Windows CE 6.0 RTM
  • Windows CE 6.0 R2
  • Windows CE 6.0 R3

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, your computer must be running System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2.

Installation instructions

After you install this hotfix on a System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 site server, the following files are copied into the folder:
<InstallationFolder>\DeviceClientDeployment\ClientTransfer\<LanguageCode>
  • For Windows CE 6.0 ARM:
    • DeviceClient_WINCE6.0_ARM.CAB
    • DmClientSetup_wince6.0_ARM.exe
    • DmInstaller_wince6.0_ARM.exe
    • enroll_wince6.0_ARM.exe
  • For Windows CE 6.0 x86:
    • DeviceClient_WINCE6.0_X86.CAB
    • DmClientSetup_wince6.0_X86.exe
    • DmInstaller_wince6.0_X86.exe
    • enroll_wince6.0_X86.exe
To install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 device clients, follow these steps:
  • For Windows CE 6.0 ARM:
    1. Rename the DmClientSetup_wince6.0_ARM.exe file to DmClientSetup.exe.
    2. Rename the DmInstaller_wince6.0_ARM.exe file to DmInstaller.exe.
    3. Rename the enroll_wince6.0_ARM.exe file to enroll.exe.
    4. Copy the sample ClientSettings.ini file to the current folder.
      Note The ClientSettings.ini file can be found at the following location:

      <InstallationFolder>\DeviceClientDeployment\ClientTransfer
    5. Customize the ClientSettings.ini file that is based on the actual environment.
    6. If certificates are required, copy all the necessary certificates into the current folder.
    7. Transfer the folder to mobile devices that are running Windows CE 6.0 ARM.
    8. Run the dminstaller.exe to install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 device client.
  • For Windows CE 6.0 x86:
    1. Rename the DmClientSetup_wince6.0_X86.exe file to DmClientSetup.exe.
    2. Rename the DmInstaller_wince6.0_X86.exe file to DmInstaller.exe.
    3. Rename the enroll_wince6.0_X86.exe file to enroll.exe.
    4. Copy the sample ClientSettings.ini to the current folder.
      Note The ClientSettings.ini file can be found at the following location: <InstallationFolder>\DeviceClientDeployment\ClientTransfer
    5. Customize the ClientSettings.ini file that is based on the actual environment.

    8. Run the dminstaller.exe to install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 device client.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
