SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You run a report in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. The report contains several parameters. In this scenario, you receive the following error message after 30 seconds:
Operation has timeout.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the data that is contained in the report parameters cannot be populated within 30 seconds.

RESOLUTION

This problem is fixed in the latest cumulative update rollup for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.

After you install this hotfix, you must change the NormalTimeout DWORD value on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM
  3. Right-click NormalTimeout, and then click Modify.

    Note By default, the NormalTimeout value is 300,000 milliseconds.
  4. In the Value data box, type a value that is larger than the value that is contained in the box, and then click OK.
  5. On the File menu, click Exit.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
