SYMPTOMS

In Windows Vista, you run a transcoding application to convert the format of a video file. The application calls the Windows Media Video Decoder (Wmvdecod.dll) module to decode video streams. However, the application crashes in the Wmvdecod.dll module. This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • Either the width or the height of the video file frame is not a multiple of eight.
  • Either the source file or the destination file is a Windows Media Video (WMV) file.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of an exception that is caused by a misaligned pointer in the Wmvdecod.dll module.
