Symptoms

In an Active Directory domain environment, the domain controllers (DCs) are running Pre-Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system. When the computer password is changed on a client computer that runs Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you will encounter an issue in which the secure channel is broken.

For example, after the password of a client computer is changed, you will see an access denied error when you run the following command on the client computer to query the secure channel:

nltest /sc_query:domain name

When this problem occurs, you have to manually add the client computer back to domain.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a design change in the netlogon!nlsessionsetup function.
