Symptoms


When you try to use Internet Explorer 8 on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 8 crashes.

When this occurs, an error message that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:

Event Type:Error
Event Source:Application Error
Event Category:(100)
Event ID:1000
Description:
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version <version number>, faulting module mshtml.dll, version <version number>, fault address <address>.


Note If you don't see this event logged in the Application log, the resolution in this article does not apply to your situation.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install the latest Windows updates. To do this, visit the following Microsoft website:
