SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message on a computer that is running Windows Vista:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Buffer Overrun detected!

Program: <program path>\CLML\CLMLSvc.exe

A buffer overrun had been detected which has corrupted the program’s Internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
This issue occurs when you perform one of the following actions:
  • You install an application.
  • You install a Windows Vista service pack.
  • You install a software update through Windows Update or through Microsoft Update.
  • You upgrade the computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7.

CAUSE

CyberLink Media Library Service (Clmlsvc.exe) scans the system for new media files. If Clmlsvc.exe encounters a path that is more than 255 characters long, Clmlsvc.exe overflows the buffer. Therefore, this error occurs.

RESOLUTION

This error message can be safely ignored if you are performing one of the actions that are described in the Symptoms section.

For example, if you see this error message during the installation of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2), click OK to close the error message box. Windows Vista SP2 will be installed correctly.
