The results of an MDX query on a calculated member do not have the formatting that you defined on the calculated member in SQL Server 2008 Analysis ServicesArticle ID: 980925 - View products that this article applies to. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008), you define a SCOPE statement in a hierarchy, but you do notdefine the format_string property. You run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query on a calculated member that is in the hierarchy. However, the resultsfor the query do not have the formatting that you defined on the calculated member. Note This issue does not occur in Microsoft SQL Server 2005. RESOLUTION

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.

WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1 Define the format_string property in the SCOPE statement. Method 2 Change the solve order for calculated members in Calculations Pane so that calculated members can overwrite the format_string property of the SCOPE statement. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
