FIX: The MIME mapping list cannot be parsed by using the earlier version of the ADSI provider in IIS 7.0

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 installed on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
  • You have installed the IIS 6.0 metabase compatibility infrastructure.
  • In the IIS 7.0 ApplicationHost.config file, there is a "<Clear />" element at the top of the MIME mapping list. For example, the MIME mapping section resembles the following:
    <staticContent lockAttributes="isDocFooterFileName">
            <clear />
            <mimeMap fileExtension=".323" mimeType="text/h323" />
            <mimeMap fileExtension=".aaf" mimeType="application/octet-stream" />
            <mimeMap fileExtension=".aca" mimeType="application/octet-stream" />
...
...
</staticContent>
  • You have a script or an application that uses the earlier version of the Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) provider to retrieve the MIME mapping list.
In this scenario, the script or the application cannot parse the MIME mapping list. Therefore, the script or application may not function correctly.

For example, in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), the earlier version of the ADSI provider is used to enumerate the IIS MIME mapping list when you run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard. Because the MIME mapping list cannot be retrieved, the configuration fails, and you receive a System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException exception.

CAUSE

The issue occurs because of an error in the ADOMapper component that is included in the IIS 6.0 metabase compatibility infrastructure.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

You must have IIS 7.0 installed to apply this hotfix. You must apply this hotfix on a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2.

Restart requirement

If IIS 7.0 is running when you apply this hotfix, you must restart the computer after the hotfix is installed.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
